Biography

I live in Edmonds WA with my wife and son. I have been a professional artist for 39 years. Born in the Midland town of Stafford, England I began my artistic career at the age of 16 specializing in architectural illustration and landscape painting. Stafford is an ancient town nestled in the lowlands of the North Midlands and surrounded by farmland and moor land. Mist covered pastures in the fall, dramatic scenery of the Pennine Hills and pastoral rolling landscapes combined with an ever changing sky served as the visual inspiration for my early career in art. The crisp light generated a lifelong interest in contrast, atmosphere and light.

After several years as a fine artist and illustrator I returned to education, graduating in 1992 from the Exeter Faculty of Arts and Design in southern England. Producing atmospheric landscapes in a realist style, I focus on the drama and the subtlety of the Pacific Northwest weather. I am inspired by drama in nature. Contrasts in light and form. From the brilliant contrasts created by the very last light of the day to the subtle effects of a foggy November morning. There is constant inspiration.

My paintings are represented by SAM Gallery, Seattle WA; Cole Gallery, Edmonds WA; Smith and Vallee Gallery, Edison WA; Centerpiece Fine Art, Raleigh NC, Mary Williams FineArt Gallery, Boulder CO and Gallerie Autrevue, Heerenveen, The Netherlands.
